FAQs

RAF FAQ

What is First Aid?

First Aid refers to the initial treatment given to a patient after an incident occurs. For example, if a painter fell of his ladder and broke his arm, the first aid would be administered by his co-workers. The Advanced Life Support would be administered by the paramedics and clinical care given by the doctors in the hospital. In First Aid we are not trying to diagnose a patient, we are trying to: – Preserve life – Protect the injured patient – Promote recovery – DO NO HARM!

Public First Aid Courses

First aid training provides the skill set required for a fast response to accidents and emergencies. The fundamentals of first aid and CPR are easily learnt by anyone who wants to make a real difference when things go wrong, whether the accident is minor, major, or a life-threatening situation. Real Response was established in October 2014 in response to perceived weaknesses in first aid training, where course attainments didn’t always match capability when it mattered most. A change was required to empower first aiders with greater retention of first aid procedural skills so they can act with decisiveness at a moment’s notice. Taking their cue from the best paramedic and military training organisations, Real Response introduced enhanced Simulation Training in a ‘learning by doing’ environment. This immersive training technique allows course participants to experience the reality of first aid response first-hand, safely overseen by some of Australia’s most capable first aid course instructors. The results are heart-warming to say the least, and greatly appreciated by business and industry leaders, employers, and especially those whose lives have been saved. Another transformative Real Response initiative making a difference is their commitment to reach all Australians with on-site training and public first aid courses.

What are public first aid courses?

Real Response course instruction is adaptable for every work, school or community group. Our courses are tailored to the specific individual and collective needs of our clients, and we invite groups of all sizes to learn first aid at our dedicated training centres in Melbourne and Sydney. Our instructors can even come to your workplace for training staff to deal with on-site emergency scenarios using simulated reality. However, we also want to ensure everyone has the same opportunity to learn life-saving procedures and techniques, so public first aid courses are the obvious solution. Our public first aid courses are ideal for people who lead busy lives but still want to prioritise safety at work and home. The courses are also great for people in smaller workplace environments unsuitable for adequate first aid practice simulations. Real Response public courses are for everyone, and include the now-famous simulation training provided by highly qualified and dedicated instructors, plus nationally accredited first aid qualifications that are in demand by safety conscious Australians.

Public courses Melbourne

First aid reach has expanded dramatically in recent years thanks to portable first aid equipment and devices. This is especially noticed in responding to victims of cardiac arrest requiring cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Portable defibrillators can be carried or kept on site for a fast response and far greater chance of survival and full recovery. With trained first aid personnel available, heart and lung function can be maintained for up to 10 minutes using chest compressions and rescue breaths, with defibrillation applied if the patient isn’t responding. CPR remains the most recognisable first aid procedure, and is ideal for learning in public first aid courses. Provide CPR (HLTAID001) and Provide First Aid (HLTAID003) are foundational first aid courses providing tremendous scope for graduates to respond to almost any accident and emergency situation, and are ideal for public first aid courses. Attainments include: • Responding to an unconscious person • Airway management • Provide CPR to an adult, child and infant • Automatic External Defibrillation (AED) training • Anaphylaxis training • Communicating in an emergency The public first aid courses are proving very popular and are now being held on an almost weekly basis. • 3 Wellington St, St Kilda, easily accessible for anyone in Melbourne. Provide CPR (HLTAID001) costs only $65 and is completed in 3.5 hours, with the nationally accredited qualification lasting 12 months, making it arguably the best value training course available in any field. Provide First Aid (HLTAID003), at only $155, is the next step up and includes the CPR component along with many other emergency response techniques. First Aid Certificate

In addition, course graduates receive a relevant first aid certificate that will strengthen any resume and open plenty of new career pathways. There is every reason to develop skills that ensure colleagues, family and anyone else has the opportunity to live and work in a safe environment, and Real Response are ready to guide you every step of the way with the introduction of public first aid courses.

Do you have minimum numbers?

We don’t have minimum numbers. We’d even be happy to run a course for 1 or 2 people. That being said, courses only really become affordable when you have around 6 people.

What is simulation based first aid training?

Traditional first aid training generally involves sitting in a classroom all day and listening to someone talk from a power point presentation. First aid simulation based training is far more active, practical and relevant. Courses revolve around a number of tailored, highly realistic simulations of medical emergencies. These realistic scenarios are created using a whole range of props like fake blood, fake wounds, smoke, sound effects etc. The participants are immersed in these first aid simulations and forced to deal with the situation as they would if it were real.
