Real Response was established in October 2014 to address the glaring disparity between first aid training and actual competency to implement the attainments in real emergency situations. The disengaging nature of first aid training in traditional classroom settings resulted in low information retention – a situation Real Response founders wanted to change fast, for everyone’s sake. First aid knowledge and skills are portable, and can be taken with you wherever you go. The dynamics of living in Australia’s largest cities have changed, placing first aid, CPR and emergency response procedures in the limelight, with trained first aiders the visible face of health and safety. Real Response first aid courses in Melbourne are transforming the way first aid is taught, understood and applied in today’s world.

First aid training is suitable for all active adults, and can even be learnt by children who are physically capable of performing the emergency procedures. Schools and learning institutes are familiar with training environments, ready for a challenge, and take first aid and CPR seriously. Real Response first aid certificate courses in Sydney are delivered face-to-face by some of Australia’s most capable professional emergency responders with the ability to transform the way you approach danger and respond to emergencies.
Older Australians also benefit immensely from first aid training at Real Response. Our Sydney ‘public courses’ focus on basic essentials of first aid, and are held at convenient locations around the city and suburbs, with individuals and groups all welcome. Life-threatening emergencies can happen at any time, and possessing the skills to respond effectively can make the difference that saves someone’s life. If you require on-site training, in-house training, or public course instruction, Real Response has a first aid course in Sydney for you.
What is first aid?
First aid is the assistance you provide when a person suffers a sudden injury, illness or collapse. As a trained first aid professional, you will have the ability to preserve a casualty’s life symptoms, prevent the condition from deteriorating and promote recovery, all while communicating with bystanders and emergency services personnel. That’s a lot to learn, but Real Response simulations experts make learning easy and fun, the realistic way.
Real Response is a registered training organisation on a mission to improve first aid knowledge and skills retention. Nationally accredited qualifications need to be supported by genuine first aid capability expected from the Australian Skills Quality Authority, and Real Response ticks all the boxes. First aid is universally practised and for everyone’s benefit, making Real Response first aid and CPR qualifications a smart move for health and safety in Sydney.
What do we learn in the first aid course?
At Real Response, you are sure to learn far more than you imagine. Simulation-based first aid training allows course participants to realistically experience emergency response scenarios and test their skills. Group training is also enhanced with simulation training that encourages teamwork, leadership and team bonding. In only 7.5 hours, spread over one or two days, Provide First Aid (HLTAID011), previously known as Level 2 First Aid or Senior First Aid, delivers an empowering knowledge and skill set that is ready for action as soon as you complete the course. Skills and procedures learnt in the course include:
Performing CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) on an adult, infant and child
Understanding the principles and practice of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
Responding to anaphylaxis using an adrenaline auto-injector
Applying airway management procedures including mouth-to-mouth resuscitation
Responding to shock, seizures and respiratory ailments
Immobilisation and bandaging for treating fractures, strains, sprains and bleeding
Simulation training is genuine timed emergency response necessary for saving lives. You will learn how to recognise an emergency, create a safe environment and determine the appropriate first aid response, all while communicating with bystanders and emergency response personnel.
Are there different levels of first aid?
Australian first aid training is in demand, with courses approved by the Australian Training Institute adding further value to quality training and Real Response qualifications. Newcomers to our first aid courses in Sydney usually benefit most from foundation courses such as Provide CPR (HLTAID009) and Provide First Aid (HLTAID011). The skills and techniques you learn are universally applied and noticed by employers all around Australia.
Specialised first aid solutions are also in demand for industry-specific applications, such as fast anaphylaxis and asthma response for people working in education and care environments. Additional courses include:
Provide First Aid in an ESI Environment (UETTDRRF10B)
Perform Rescue from a Live LV Panel (UETTDRRF06B)
Provide Emergency First Aid Response in an Education & Care Setting (HLTAID012)
What is simulation-based first aid training?
Prior to the foundation of Real Response, first aid training was mainly conducted in classroom-style settings where students remain desk-bound, and to be honest, the results weren’t encouraging. Around 26% of all Australians had learnt CPR, but only 4% believed they would actually perform the procedure correctly in a real emergency.
Enter the Real Response founders, a paramedic and an academic, combining their skillset to devise simulation-based first aid training, or ‘learning by doing’. With simulation training, students get away from the desk and enter into realistic simulated emergency situations. The method, previously only used by the military, police and medical emergency responders, is known to save more lives, and is a fun way to learn serious stuff. Simulation-based first aid training includes:
Creation of simulated emergency scenarios at your work, school or other premises
Realistic props and actors for enhancing learning immersion
Timed emergency response for a realistic appraisal of life-saving qualifications
Emergency lights, sirens, pyrotechnics, 000 calls
Fake wounds, fake blood and practice dummies for CPR
The use of defibrillators and auto adrenaline injectors
Who is eligible for the first aid course?
Anyone who wants to make their workplace, school, home or other environment safer is eligible for the first aid course. Simulation training allows course participants to immerse themselves in first aid training and recall the information accurately when it is needed most. Learning by doing is effective, life-saving and life changing, with Real Response students experiencing greater capabilities and confidence the moment they graduate.
